So what is a society? I never thought of hunter gatherer bands as a society, but I suppose they are? If the various American Indian tribes or whatever were left to their own devices, would they of developed a mass society of some sort or were they pretty much stuck in a cycle of building civilizations and letting them collapse? Is the paradigm of Western progress inherently an enemy to the advancement of any human potential outside its own confines?
